Consists of many ducts and secretory lobules.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Connective Tissue Stroma:<\/strong>\u00a0Supporting structure that surrounds the mammary glands. Both\u00a0fibrous\u00a0and fatty components. The\u00a0fibrous\u00a0stroma condenses to form suspensory ligaments\u00a0that attach and secure the breast to the dermis and fascia. They also separate the secretory lobules of the breasts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pectoral Fascia:<\/strong>\u00a0This flat sheet of connective tissue is associated with\u00a0the\u00a0pectoralis major muscle\u00a0and is the base the breast\u00a0lies\u00a0on. It is an attachment point for the suspensory ligaments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0lymphatic\u00a0drainage of the breasts\u00a0is\u00a0of great clinical importance due to\u00a0its\u00a0role in metastasis of cancer.\u00a0Drainage blockages\u00a0associated with cancer\u00a0can result in nipple deviation and retraction\u00a0and\u00a0dimpled pores. Large\u00a0dimples\u00a0are usually caused by cancerous invasions and\u00a0fibrosis. This causes\u00a0retraction of the suspensory ligaments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer within their lifetime.\u00a0Thus, early detection\/screening provides the best chances of recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For many countries across the world, October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month.
