{"id":8882,"date":"2020-07-20T14:47:48","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T14:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corpsite.staging.3d4medical.cloud\/uncategorized\/vasculature-of-the-eye"},"modified":"2021-05-13T12:34:54","modified_gmt":"2021-05-13T12:34:54","slug":"vasculature-of-the-eye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corpsite.nonprod.completeanatomy.cn\/zh-hans\/blog\/vasculature-of-the-eye","title":{"rendered":"Vasculature of the eye"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Have you ever\u00a0taken\u00a0a photo with friends, but then on\u00a0a closer look\u00a0your eyes come out\u00a0piercing red\u00a0??\u00a0Red eyes\u00a0in photos\u00a0are\u00a0caused by\u00a0the light from the flash bouncing off the capillaries in your eyes\u00a0?!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.completeanatomy.cn\/website\/blog\/eye-vasculature\/eye2.jpg\">\n<figcaption>The ophthalmic and internal carotid arteries, labeled on the Gross 3D anatomy model<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0main\u00a0source of arterial blood to the eyeball comes from the ophthalmic artery\u00a0?, one of the branches of the internal carotid.\u00a0Several arterial branches arise from the\u00a0ophthalmic\u00a0artery to supply different components of the eye.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.completeanatomy.cn\/website\/blog\/eye-vasculature\/eye3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Vasculature of the eye<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Use&nbsp;the mnemonic&nbsp;<strong>DRMCLESS<\/strong>&nbsp;to help remember these branches&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>D:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>dorsal nasal artery- one of the terminal branches of the ophthalmic artery, it gives off several branches&nbsp;that&nbsp;supply the nasolacrimal sac and the dorsum of the nose.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>R:&nbsp;<\/strong>(central) retinal artery-&nbsp;supplies optic nerve and&nbsp;inner layers&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;retina.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>M:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>muscular artery (not seen above)-&nbsp;often forms groups&nbsp;that&nbsp;accompany&nbsp;the&nbsp;oculomotor nerve to supply extraocular muscles. Also gives&nbsp;off anterior ciliary arteries to supply&nbsp;the&nbsp;ciliary plexus, and anterior conjunctival arteries to supply the conjunctiva.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>C:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>ciliary arteries (long&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;short)-&nbsp;these arteries pierce the sclera on the posterior&nbsp;part&nbsp;of the eye. They supply the sclera, choroid and anterior segment of the eye.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>L:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>lacrimal artery-&nbsp;mainly supplies the lacrimal gland, eyelids, conjunctiva, and parts of the dura mater.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>E:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>ethmoidal arteries (anterior&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;posterior)-&nbsp;branches descend into nasal cavity and&nbsp;further&nbsp;meningeal branches supply dura mater.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>S:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>supraorbital artery-&nbsp;exits&nbsp;the orbit through the supraorbital foramen.
